history

Since the 1980s, Intercross has developed into an independent sport. As early as the late 1970s, the so-called soft lacrosse with a soft ball and flexible club head was used as a school sport in the USA. Intercrosse gained greater popularity as the game as an indoor sport can be played year round and by both men and women. In 1985 the Intercrosse World Federation (FIIC) was founded in Paris. Intercrosse won the Coubertin Fairness Award from Unesco. Intercrosse is played in around 40 nations worldwide; in Switzerland, for example, Intercrosse is played at over 500 schools.

Rules of the game

In intercrosse, the ball must be pushed into the opposing goal with a stick. Each player has a stick, at the end of which a kind of basket (head) is attached. A soft plastic ball the size of a tennis ball is thrown and caught with this basket. Each team has four field players and one goalkeeper . The aim of each attack is a hit in the street hockey great goal of the opponent. The game takes place on a 40 m long and 20 m wide field and lasts four times 12 minutes. The racket shaft has a length of 60 to 75 cm, the basket measures a maximum of approx. 27 by 17 cm. The goal is 1.22 by 1.22 meters. The ball weighs between 80 and 100 grams, has a circumference of 23 to 25 centimeters and is made of soft rubber . No body or club contact is allowed during the game. Intercrosse is played without contact (player / player, player / racket, racket / racket), so the Intercrosse player can do without body protection. The goalkeeper wears protective equipment. Another rule is one-man coverage. It is not allowed for two defenders to protect a striker (double defense), unless a player from the opposing team is in the defensive half. The defending player holds the stick with both hands while defending. In addition, the team in charge of the ball must complete an attack within 30 seconds. A player may not carry the ball for more than five seconds.
