The Interdisciplinary Scientific Center for Medicine, Ethics and Law ( IWZ MER ) at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg was founded on September 18, 2001.
aims
With the help of its interdisciplinary collaborations, the center has set itself the goal of serving the discussion and research of problems in the fields of medicine, ethics and law, which arise as a result of increasingly specific findings in medical research and their application in humans. Topics such as prenatal diagnostics, embryo research, genetic research, transplant medicine, euthanasia and terminal care are addressed. In addition to ethical aspects, economic aspects should also be discussed on a scientific basis.
Master's degree in medicine, ethics and law
The medical-ethics-law postgraduate course has existed since the summer semester 2005, from which the medical-ethics-law master’s course emerged. Upon completion of their studies, graduates are awarded the title Master of Medicine, Ethics and Law ( M. mel. ).
Publication series medicine-ethics-law
The Interdisciplinary Scientific Center regularly publishes articles by recognized scientists in the field of medicine, ethics and law as well as by graduates of the master’s degree in the “Medical-Ethics-Law Series”, which is edited by Henning Rosenau (Managing Director).
Alumni association meris eV
In 2008, the alumni association meris eV, which emerged from the course, was founded, which supports the current participants in the study program and at the same time becomes professionally active. The name "meris" comes from the Greek and means community. The association is not aimed exclusively at students of the Interdisciplinary Scientific Center Medicine-Ethics-Law. The association publishes the journal for medical ethics law twice a year .
