The Internationaal Constantin Brunner Instituut (ICBI) (in German: Internationales Constantin Brunner Institute ) is a cultural foundation founded in 1947 in The Hague , which deals with the intellectual and cultural legacy of the German-Jewish philosopher Constantin Brunner (1862-1937). This makes it, alongside the Constantin Brunner Foundation in Hamburg, the older of two foundations that are dedicated to Brunner.

tasks and goals

The aim of the foundation is to reissue the works of Brunner, most of which were destroyed during the years of the national-socialist regime in Germany. Research into his works and thoughts in the field of science, philosophy, art and literature should also be encouraged and the significance of his practical philosophy for a better understanding of social and religious problems should be discussed.

Applications for support of Brunner projects can be submitted informally at any time.

history

The ICBI was founded in 1947 by friends and admirers of Brunner, who were scattered around the world by the chaos of war, in The Hague, Brunner's last place of residence, and has been registered as a cultural foundation since 1950 (Chamber of Commerce Haaglanden # 41152272).

Until 2008 the ICBI kept Brunner's estate in its own archive as well as Brunner's last study. The archive has since been handed over to the Leo Baeck Institute in Berlin, where it is made fully accessible to the public. The essential parts of Brunner's last study have been given to the Jewish Museum in Berlin.

In line with its objectives, the ICBI has published new editions of Brunner's works, translations and commentaries over the decades. It also repeatedly organized lectures and conferences and supported a wide range of research.

Since Jürgen Stenzel has been chairman, the ICBI has been united with the Constantin Brunner Foundation .
