The International Association for Assyriology (IAA) is a non-profit, non-political organization based in Leiden , which was founded in July 2003 to "promote the areas of cuneiform studies , ancient oriental history and archeology on an international basis and as a representative body for these areas towards national, to function internationally and private institutions as well as the public. "

According to the Union of International Associations , this organization was founded in "July 2003, [in] London (UK), during the International Congress of Assyriology and Near Eastern Archeology (RAI)" and "registered under Dutch law."

The IAA organizes an annual congress, the Rencontre Assyriologique Internationale , which gathers scientists from all over the world at centers of Middle East research. Associations and societies are affiliated such as the American Oriental Society , the British Institute for the Study of Iraq , the Deutsche Orient-Gesellschaft , the Israel Society for Assyriology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies and La Société pour l'étude du Proche-Orient ancien .
