The International Computer Games Association (short: ICGA , German  " International Computer Games Association " ) is an international association that deals with various aspects of Artificial Intelligence ( English "Artificial Intelligence AI" ).

history

In 1977 she was u. a. Founded by the Scottish chess master and computer expert David Levy as the International Computer Chess Association ICCA ( German  "International Computer Chess Association " ). The focus was initially on computer chess and the intention to promote synergy in this area , to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and to organize competitions . This was also served by the company's own scientific journal , the ICCA Journal .

In 2002 it got its current name. The replacement of chess ( German  “chess” ) by games ( German  “games” ) reflects the expansion of the area of ​​interest beyond computer chess to all computer games , but mainly to strategy games such as checkers , go or mill . The title of the quarterly in-house journal has since been ICGA Journal .

The ICGA organizes the annual computer chess world championship , the computer Olympiad and an international conference on computers and games, called Advances in Computer Games (ACG) ( German for  "progress in computer games" ).

The first president from 1977 was Ben Mittman. He was followed by Monty Newborn in 1983 , David Levy in 1986 and Tony Marsland in 1992 . From 1999 until the end of December 2018 David Levy was again President of the ICGA. Since January 2019 has Jonathan Schaeffer held the post and was on the selected by himself from January 2019 Jonathan Schäeffer replaced.
