International Federation of Automatic Control

The International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) is a multinational association of national member organizations, which represent the technical and scientific societies of the country that deal with automation technology in the respective country. IFAC has its secretariat in the Lower Austrian market town of Laxenburg , approx. 20 kilometers south of Vienna .

The aim of the association, founded in September 1957 , is to promote science and technology of automation and control in the broadest sense in all systems, be it in technology, physics , biology , sociology or economics , both in theory and in application. IFAC also looks at the impact of control and automation on society.

The association pursues its goals by organizing technical conferences and any other means that are in accordance with the statutes and promote the exchange and dissemination of information on activities in automation technology.

A world congress takes place every three years. In the period between the world congresses, many symposia, conferences and workshops are organized that deal with specific aspects of automation technology.

A newsletter is published about the activities of the association. The official IFAC magazines are Automatica, Control Engineering Practice, Annual Reviews in Control, Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence, Journal of Process Control, Mechatronics, Nonlinear Analysis: Hybrid Systems, IFAC Journal of Systems and Control, published by Elsevier Science Ltd. appear.
