International Islamic Relief Organization
The International Islamic Relief Organization , or International Islamic Relief Organization of Saudi Arabia , IIRO and IIROSA ( Arabic هيئة الإغاثة الإسلامية العالمية, DMG Haiʾat al-iġāṯa al-Islāmiyya al-ʿālamiyya ), is a charity organization based in Saudi Arabia . It is the aid organization of the Islamic World League .
The United Nations , the USA , the Philippines , Indonesia and Croatia suspect the IIRO of engaging in more politics than humanitarian aid and even supporting Islamic terrorism .
history
The IIRO was founded on January 29, 1979 by a royal Saudi decree.
Farid Yasin al-Qurashi was the founding father and director of the IIRO until 1993.
The IIRO is a member of the Islamic World League .
Links to Terrorism
Mohammad Jamal Khalifa is the brother-in-law of Osama bin Laden and has been director of the IIRO in Manila since 1991 . In 1994 he was expelled from the country by the Philippine authorities on suspicion of establishing financial links between al-Qaeda , the Abu Sajaf group and the Islamic Liberation Front of the Moros .
During the Bosnian War and the Kosovo War , the IIRO was involved in the financing of the Muslim fighters.
The French foreign intelligence service recorded a payment of 4.5 million dollars to Osama bin Laden . According to the Réseau Voltaire association , he is also the spiritual leader of the IIRO.
The American branch of the IIRO was closed in 2002 on suspicion of funding Al-Qaeda.
On September 22, 2005, victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks filed indictments against the IIRO in a US federal court.
Since August 3, 2006, the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks against the United States has designated the IIRO as a radical Islamic financial organization.
A resolution of the United Nations Security Council from 2006 describes the branches of the IIRO in the Philippines and Indonesia as support organizations of al-Qaeda .
Several former employees are suspected of being linked to terrorist activities:
- The activities of the IIRO in Peshawar were directed by Talaat Fouad Abdul Qasim , a member of al-Jamāʿa al-islāmiyya , who was sentenced to death in absentia in his home country, was captured by the USA in Croatia in September 1995 and in Cairo in 1998 was executed.
- Sayed Abu Nasir from Bangladesh , who worked for the IIRO until 1992, was arrested in India in January 1999 . He was about to carry out attacks on 3 American consulates.
- Mahmoud Jaballah , an Egyptian , was arrested in Canada in 2001 .
- The Saudi Fayez Banihammad was on board United Airlines Flight 175 .
- The Algerian Mustafa Ahmed Hamlily was arrested on May 25, 2002 by the Pakistani police.

The IIRO should not be confused with the aid organization Islamic Relief Worldwide .
