International Chorbiennale

The International Chorbiennale is a musical event in Aachen that was founded in 2009 by the then Head of Culture and City Director Wolfgang Rombey together with the then General Music Director Marcus Bosch and the four initiative choirs Aachen Chamber Choir , Carmina Mundi , the Aachen Young Choir and the Aachen Madrigal Choir .

Since then, local, regional and international choirs from, for example, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Latvia, Ukraine, St. Petersburg and the USA have participated in concerts in and around Aachen every two years. In recent years Cantatrix , the women's choir of the Glier Institute for Music in Kiev, Latvian Voices , the Salt Lake Vocal Artists, the WDR Rundfunkchor Köln , Coro da Camerata Antiqua de Curitiba, the Ensemble Sirenot and VOCES8 have taken part in the international choir biennale . Vocal music from all epochs, styles and genres as well as world premieres and German premieres are performed in various concert formats, including open-air, church, late-night and lunch concerts. In addition, the population at workshops and open rehearsals and in Singalong - u. JEKISS projects (= each child has their own voice) included.

In 2015, more than 30,000 spectators attended the concerts at the 4th Chorbiennale, in which more than 70 choirs were involved and which traditionally culminate in a long choir night followed by farewell singing in front of Aachen City Hall .
