The Young Choir Aachen (spelling the young chor aachen ) was founded in 1966 as a student chamber choir by Fritz ter Wey . Under his direction, the ensemble has since developed around 600 choral works from the Renaissance to the modern era and performed them in more than 500 concerts. One focus of his work is - hence the name "young" choir - the choral music of the 20th century. The choir has been to numerous important festivals in Germany , the Netherlands, Belgium , France , Austria , Italy , Spain ,Denmark , Sweden , Finland , Hungary , Israel and the Republic of Macedonia were invited. Over 50 radio productions for German and European broadcasters underline the national and international reputation of the choir. In addition, the choir was co-founder and initiative choir of the International Chorbiennale in Aachen in 2009, along with the Madrigal Choir Aachen , the Carmina Mundi Choir and the Aachen Chamber Choir .
The choir has received numerous prizes and awards at national and international competitions, for example:
- 1st prize at the international choir competition in Spittal an der Drau ( Austria )
- 1st prize at the BBC London international radio competition “ Let the Peoples Sing ”
- 2nd prize at the German Choir Competition ( Hanover ) in the special category of semi-professional choirs
- Prize of the City of Aachen
- multiple prizewinner at the music festival in Niš (former Yugoslavia )
- Winner of the “Concours Europeen pour Chorales” in Luxembourg
- 1st prize at the international choir competition in Pohlheim
Numerous contemporary composers (including Henk Badings , Jürg Baur , Vic Nees , Raymond Schroyens ) have composed for the Aachen Young Choir or entrusted premieres to this ensemble.
