International Film Union
The Internationale Film-Union GmbH Remagen was a copier and dubbing studio that existed from 1946 in the Calmuth Valley between Remagen and Oberwinter . More than 800 feature films were dubbed there, for example the Don Camillo and Peppone films and numerous films with Laurel and Hardy .

The Film Union was founded on March 8, 1947 and shortly thereafter renamed the International Film Union . The French brought the Union with the main shareholder Union Générale Cinematographique in the Calmuth and hoped to liven up the film in their zone of occupation. From then on there was a black and white copier in the valley near Remagen, in which nitrate films were copied and copies made for cinema and television until 1996.
The dubbing studios were built in 1946/1947; the building also housed three studios, a control room and projection room, an editing and performance room, and lounges for actors. Voice and music recordings, voice and noise synchronization, commentary recordings and transfers - the studios were used constantly. Recordings with Kurt Edelhagen , among others, were made in the large studio .
Until 1965 the company was mainly run by French companies. After the transformation of the IFU into a GmbH in 1960 and the sale to Hadeko Film GmbH in 1965, the French participation ends. With the advent of television, IFU increasingly lost orders in the dubbing business and was then sold to Gerd Holland, who until 1986 produced the weekly film show Blick in die Welt , which had existed since 1951 . In 1996 the IFU ceased its activities completely. The dilapidated studio complex was sold in 2008 to Frank Asbeck , who had the IFU building (copy work, recording studio) torn down in order to restore the Gut Calmuth hunting lodge to its original condition. Most of the IFU's archive material was also destroyed; However, some was given to the German Film Museum in Frankfurt am Main.
Until 1973, numerous stars dubbed their films at the IFU . Among them were: Romy Schneider , Hildegard Knef , Ellen Schwiers , Hansjörg Felmy and Gert Froebe . Also Fernandel as Don Camillo received his German voice in the studios of the IFU and numerous Laurel-and-Hardy films were processed here.
The copier, which only made black and white copies until the end, was one of the few copiers that was able to make 16 and 35 millimeter copies of 35 millimeter nitro negatives in good quality and at reasonable prices in the 1980s and 1990s . Numerous black and white cinema classics were copied there from black and white nitro negatives.
