The International Primary School Pierre Trudeau is a German-French bilingual school in private ownership. Your location is Barleben near Magdeburg .

Structures

The school employs 20 teachers and three pedagogues. You teach a total of 12 classes with 20 to 24 students each. Seven teachers come from abroad and teach as native speakers. The school's partner language is French; English is also taught as a second foreign language. An after-school care center with an international focus is attached to the facility.

history

The school was founded in 2000 by the Ecole e. V., a parents' initiative. It used to be called the International Primary School Magdeburg. In 2003 the primary school was given its final name. It bears the name of the Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau . This earned itself among other things through its work in favor of bilingual schools in Canada. The move from Magdeburg to Barleben in 2006 was another big event after the name was given.

Intercultural and bilingual education, SINUS project

In primary school, French (from the 1st grade) and English (from the 3rd grade) are taught. Mathematics and specialist knowledge are taught in two hours per week in bilingual French ( bilingual teaching ). The interculturality is guaranteed above all by the fact that French lessons, for example, are exclusively carried out by native speakers. The primary school pupils receive between five and twelve hours of their lessons in French depending on the school year. This intensive training is supported by an annual trip abroad from the 3rd grade (one week). The aim is to stay with host families. A Franco-German project week and an international children's and youth festival are held every year. The great majority of the graduates of the elementary school continue their internationally oriented education in Barleben up to the Abitur ( Internationales Gymnasium Pierre Trudeau ).

As part of the SINUS-Transfer Elementary School project, which aims to increase the efficiency of math and science teaching, there is intensive cooperation between the elementary school and the Pierre Trudeau International High School.

Architecture and buildings

The ultra-modern, but also partly old-fashioned school building was designed in the architectural style of a four-sided farm with a manor house. The two architects Kirchner and Przyborowski designed a new school building in a traditionalist setting. On August 31, 2006, the new school building was occupied.
