International Schillertage

The International Schiller Days are a theater festival that takes place every two years at the Nationaltheater Mannheim .

The focus of the event is on productions that deal with the work of Friedrich Schiller . The relation of the National Theater to Schiller goes back to a joint collaboration: Schiller was Mannheim's first theater poet from 1783 . His drama Die Räuber was premiered at the National Theater last year .

The first Schiller Days took place in 1978. From 2006 to 2017 the artistic director of the Schillertage was Burkhard C. Kosminski , theater director at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. The Schillertage 2019 were under the direction of his successor Christian Holtzhauer .

  • The 16th International Schiller Days took place from June 2 to 10, 2011 and had the motto "Make history!"
  • The 17th International Schiller Days, which took place from June 21 to 29, 2013, dealt with "The critical mass" . With reference to the relationship between Friedrich Schiller and his theater audience, which was seen as changeable and stormy, the role of the collective “audience” was questioned. With over 22,000 visitors, the International Schillertage achieved a new visitor record.
  • The 18th International Schillertage, which took place from June 12th to 20th, 2015, was themed as a private company and attracted around 21,000 visitors.
  • The 19th International Schillterage took place from June 16 to 24, 2017 under the motto After Freedom .
  • The 20th International Schiller Days took place from June 20th to 30th under the motto fever and attracted around 25,000 visitors.
