The Basil al-Assad International Airport ( Arabic مطار باسل الأسد الدولي, DMG Maṭār Bāsil al-Asad ad-duwalī , English Bassel Al-Assad International Airport ) is an airport in the city of Latakia in Syria .

The airport is located north of Damascus, about 20 km south of Latakia, in the small town of Qardaha , the hometown of the Assad clan. It is named after Basil al-Assad , the elderly brother of the current Syrian President Bashar al-Assad who died in an accident .

The airport is served by the airlines Air Arabia and Syrian Arab Airlines , and until 2010 also by Sama Airlines .
The Hmeimim military airfield of the Russian Air Force is located in the northern area of the airport . It went into operation on September 30, 2015 and is only accessible to Russian military personnel.
