Krakow International Cultural Center

The International Cultural Center in Krakow (pol. Międzynarodowe Centrum Kultury, eng. International Cultural Center) is a research institution that is active in the field of exhibition, educational and publishing activities. The ICC was founded in 1991 in the “Pod Kruki” house on Kraków's Market Square . The center focuses on a wide spectrum in the fields of art history, national heritage, and art per se. Prof. Jacek Purchla is the founder and director of the center.

history

The International Cultural Center was established on May 29, 1991 during the OSCE Conference in Krakow. The location was not chosen by chance, as Krakow has always been the country's cultural center and one of the most important cultural centers in Europe. The ICC (official English abbreviation) was the first cultural institution of the new generation, which was founded after the political change in Poland in 1989 .

Area of ​​responsibility

The numerous exhibitions and workshops are primarily intended for the citizens of Kraków as well as the tourists who visit the city every year. The ICC attaches particular importance to the cooperation with scientists, historians and politicians who develop a broad network of culture and cultural heritage on an international level. Through its seat in many organizations and committees, the ICC represents Poland in the international discussion about world cultural heritage. The ICC lays the foundations in Krakow and Poland for a broad discussion on art, history and national heritage. This is mainly done through exhibitions, workshops, seminars, summer schools, one of the most modern libraries in Poland and a range of courses for graduate students.

Exhibitions and conferences

The ICC gallery mainly focuses on 19th and 20th century art from Central Europe. However, there are always exhibitions and conferences about art from all over the world. The conferences organized by the ICC are organized in cooperation with many international partners and are therefore not always held at the headquarters of the ICC, but throughout Europe. The theme of the conferences oscillates between the Polish national heritage and the world cultural heritage . In addition, the ICC organizes conferences and seminars accompanying the respective exhibitions.

Membership in international institutions

The ICC is a member of the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue Between Cultures Foundation, European Network of Cultural Administration Training Centers Culture Action Europe Foundation, Europa Nostra , CULTURELINK and the International Association of Research Institutes in the History of Art The ICC also manages the AHICE (Art historian information from Central Europe) Internet portal .

Library

The ICC library is one of the most modern in Poland. The library maintains over 21,000 books and updates editions of over 430 magazines and periodicals. The library's primary focus is on history, cultural heritage and art history. The ICC also has a rich assortment of its own publications, which have often been recognized with awards for their quality.

Education

The ICC, in cooperation with the Cracow School of Economics, offers a three-semester course in the field of cultural heritage. Above all, graduates who want to deepen their specialist knowledge and at the same time gain practical relevance to their field of work are addressed.
