Interplast-Germany (spelling: INTERPLAST Germany) is a non-profit association that carries out plastic surgeries in developing countries free of charge .
The operations are mainly on people with facial deformities, cleft jaws, lips and palates, severe burn scars as well as defects caused by accidents and the consequences of war.
The surgical teams, consisting of plastic surgeons, anesthetists and surgical nursing staff, make their vacation available to treat people in developing countries.
The aim of treatment by Interplast is to enable patients to become a socially integrated part of their society again.
The association was founded in 1980 by Gottfried Lemperle in Frankfurt am Main. Lemperle was inspired by Interplast from the USA . André Borsche was chairman from 1999 to 2011 . The association is divided into 13 sections across Germany. Interplast Germany eV is represented by a board in Germany. The board is responsible for the interests of the entire association.
The actual actors are the members of the association. The chairpersons of the individual sections or the respective projects are of particular importance. They are responsible for project planning, implementation and financing. One of the longest standing initiatives is Interplast Berlin-Paraguay.
