ReSurge International (formerly Interplast ) is an aid organization that offers or carries out free plastic surgery interventions in developing countries , especially in children with cleft lip and palate and burn scars .

With Interplast-Germany there is a branch of the organization in Germany .

history

Interplast was founded in 1969 by surgeon Donald Laub from Stanford University .

The first patient was a 13-year-old boy who had come from his home in Mexicali, Mexico, to Stanford University Medical Center to undergo surgery to repair his cleft lip and palate. Soon after, Laub and other surgeons organized regular trips to a charity hospital near Mexicali to treat children with deformities. Over time, Interplast began to organize voluntary surgical trips to other parts of Latin America and eventually to Asia and Africa . As medical infrastructures improved in developing countries, Interplast shifted its focus to training and empowering doctors in developing countries by providing surgical directors with the resources (money, education, care, etc.) to provide a high quality one To offer care in their own communities.

Turia Pitt acts as the organization's ambassador to Australia.
