Turia Pitt (born July 24, 1987 ) is an Australian engineer and activist .

biography

Turia Pitt took part in an ultramarathon through the Western Australian region of Kimberley in 2011 , was trapped in a bush fire and suffered life-threatening, extensive burns that affected 65% of the body surface . She sued the organizer of the RacingThePlanet ultra marathon, who did not cancel it despite warnings, which closed the case in May 2014 after an out-of-court settlement.

She is an ambassador for the non-profit association Interplast , which performs plastic surgeries in developing countries.

By participating in a trekking competition along part of the Great Wall of China , she raised nearly $ 200,000 for Interplast.

It graced the cover of The Australian Women's Weekly . She was a finalist for the Australian of the Year .

She is married to Michael Hoskin, with whom she was already in a relationship before her accident.

On May 8 and October 8, 2016, she took part in Ironman races in Hawaii.
