Interpol Global Communication System 24/7

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Interpol Global Communication System 24/7 , I-24/7 for short, is the electronic communication network established by Interpol in 2002 . Together with the I-Link access software, the I-24/7 replaces the previous X-400 communication system. I-24/7 corresponds to national or supranational networks such as Law Enforcement Online of the FBI or the COREU network of the European Union . In addition to providing databases and operational support for police work, it fulfills the third of the three core tasks of Interpol, the provision of secure, global police communication services.

tasks and goals

I-24/7 was developed in order to network the Interpol participant organizations and to enable access to the Interpol databases , where information on suspicious persons or persons who have been posted for arrest (name, photo, address, telephone number), terrorist suspects and wanted terrorists, information information on child abuse, lost or stolen travel documents ( SLTD ), stolen vehicles (SMV), fingerprints (AFIS), anonymised DNA profiles (DNA), stolen government documents (SAD) and stolen works of art (WOA).

In addition to access to the databases, I-24/7 enables information to be transmitted to the participants. International search calls and other information, so-called notices, are transmitted via I-24/7. Notices are marked with colors in the following grading:

  • Red Notice - People wanted by arrest warrant for extradition.
  • Green Notice - disclosure of information from potential criminals with cross-border activities.
  • Blue Notice - inquiries about people with the aim of determining their whereabouts.
  • Yellow Notice - Inquiries about missing or unknown people.
  • Black Notice - inquiries about unknown dead.
  • Orange Notice - warning notices about letter bombs, hidden weapons, suspicious incidents.
  • United Nations Security Council Special Notice - Al-Qaeda surveillance alerts based on UN Resolution No. 1267.

In addition to the notices, search requests, so-called diffusions , are also transmitted, i.e. H. Search requests to a limited number of participating countries, such as neighboring countries, where there is a high probability of success.

Access and management

All Interpol National Central Offices (NBZ) can access I-24/7. The Federal Criminal Police Office in Wiesbaden has been connected to I-24/7 since April 2, 2003. In October 2009, 188 NBZs and 24 other organizations, some regional offices, some UN agencies, were connected to the network. This access is to be extended beyond these offices to enable border and customs officers to access the data for travel documents, vehicles and personal data. The decision on the expansion lies with the respective states.

I-24/7 is managed and administered by the Executive Directorate for Police Services at the Interpol headquarters in Lyon .
