Intruder is an American thrash metal band from Nashville , Tennessee . In the beginning they called themselves transgresser and were still a four-member cover band. After signing the contract with Metal Blade , Greg Messicks joined the band as the second guitarist.

The band was relatively short-lived. Intruder released three studio albums and two EPs from 1987 to 1991 before the band split up in 1992. Since then, the band has reunited several times to perform on live shows.

history

The band was actually founded in 1984, but under the name Transgresser . They released demos in 1984 and 1986, which would later appear on the re-release of the debut album. After a few name changes, it was finally decided to use the name Intruder . The debut album Live To Die was released on the Ironworks label and Azra Records (a small independent label) in 1987. When Live To Die was released, the band was still four people and they belonged to speed metal .

The band signed with Metal Blade Records in 1989, when guitarist Greg Messick joined the band. Intruder released the second album A Higher Form Of Killing in 1989, but now with five. The sound of the band moved away from speed metal to thrash metal. Intruder released a very rare EP in 1990 called Escape From Pain . It contained songs that were already on previous albums, as well as a cover of the song 25 or 6 to 4 by Chicago . It only contained the title track as a new song. Escape From Pain was the only release on Metal Blade that was not released on all three formats CD, Lassette and Vinyl.

In 1991 Intruder released their last studio album, Psycho Savant . It was the only Metal Blade release that included all of the original songs. The band's style now approached progressive thrash metal. After five years of unsuccessful releases, the band split in 1992. In a 2006 interview, guitarist Greg Messick said the band tried to stay together after losing their Metal Blade contract. However, this was not possible due to necessary changes in the line-up. When asked why the band split up, singer Jimmy Hamilton replied as follows:

“We were just dropped by Metal Blade in the middle of the tour, just as we hit the charts. Even though we were together for so long, there was no 'love' just like in a marriage, so we said, 'This marriage has to stop for a while. We have to consult. '"

- Jimmy Hamilton,

Intruder toured an impressive number of times during her short career. Although there was hardly any promotion, Intruder was able to tour the USA, Canada and Mexico with each release . They performed with bands like Helstar and Morbid Angel . In 2002 she reunited the band and played a few concerts from time to time. She headlined the Classic Metal Fest in Ohio in 2002 and co-headlined the Headbangers Open Air in Germany. They also took part in the Keep It True Festival in Germany.

style

The sound of their work is described as a mixture of Thrash Metal and Power Metal . The sometimes high speed of the songs and their versatile and melodic singing, which is sometimes interrupted by shouts, are also characteristic. The long playing time of the individual songs, which is usually over 6 minutes long, is also typical of the band. Intruder are comparable to other thrash metal bands like Overkill and Heathen .
