His mother was the daughter of Merĸusâĸ (around 1852–1916) and Agpaliapik (around 1860–1901), who immigrated from Canada with Qillarsuaq . About his younger brother Ûssarĸak (1913–1937) he was an uncle of Uvdloriaĸ Løvstrøm (1936–2015). His family were among the first Inughuit to be baptized . He and his siblings were also one of the first of their people to learn to read and write. In 1931 Inuutersuaq and his wife took part in the search, led by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police , for Hans Krüger's expedition team, which he had lost on Ellesmere Island the previous year . The search was unsuccessful. They later took part in the Oxford University Ellesmere Island Expedition 1934-1935.
