He is the son of Daniel Decerle, socialist mayor of his municipality and a councilor for the canton of La Guiche until his death in 2008 , and nephew of Christian Decerle, president of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Chamber of Agriculture.

Decerle studied at the Saint-Gengoux-le-National secondary school and at the private agricultural high school Ressins in Nandax before graduating from Gueugnon with his agricultural diploma . He then studied abroad before taking over the family business at the age of 24 after the death of his father. In 2019, his farm consisted of around a hundred Charolais cattle.

Entry into the European Parliament

At the end of 2018, the ruling party of French President Emmanuel Macron nominated La Republique en Marche! , Decerle as a non-party candidate for fourth place on the party's European election list. In March 2019, Decerle resigned as chairman of Jeunes agriculteurs .

In the course of the election campaign he was accused by the leading candidate of the French green party Europe Écologie-Les Verts , Yannick Jadot , of being "valuable support for glyphosate and Monsanto". In fact, he was listed as a political supporter by the pesticide and seed companies. The French edition of the Huffington Post presented Decerle together with the green candidate Benoît Biteau as antagonists of the future EU agricultural policy, as they contradicted each other on crucial points such as the reform of the common agricultural policy or the release of glyphosate.

La Republique en Marche won the election! with 22.2 percent 23 of the 79 French mandates, so that Decerle moved in directly. Like his fellow candidates on the list, he joined the renamed liberal group Renew Europe . For the group he is a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and a deputy member of the Committee on International Trade .
