Invent a chip
Invent a Chip (IaC for short) is a nationwide school competition in which a microchip can be designed.
Invent a Chip has existed since 1959, has taken place annually since 2002 and is organized in cooperation with the Association of Electrical, Electronics and Information Technology (VDE) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
procedure
Invent a Chip is divided into two stages. In the first stage, 20 questions about the design of the microchips must be answered. It is possible to answer only these questions, the competition ending with the receipt of a certificate stating the number of correct answers.
In the second stage, you can submit your own chip idea, which is presented on a few pages. The ten best chip ideas are selected by a jury of experts; and their submitters are invited to a workshop in Hanover. All competition details will be announced there and an introduction to the description of FPGAs with VHDL follows. This is followed by an elaboration phase of four months in which the participants implement their chip ideas. Support is provided via the Internet by experts from Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hanover .
Attendees
Young people in grades 8 to 13 of general or vocational schools can take part. The young people can participate either individually or in teams with a maximum of four members.
