The examination takes place in front of an examination board of the IHK Frankfurt am Main .

There are no uniform national legal regulations for the further training examination to become an investment specialist. However, special regulations have been issued by the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Emergence

With the growing importance of the investment industry, the requirements for industry-specific education and training have also increased. The first consequence was the creation of a new apprenticeship as an investment fund manager in 2003. In addition, there was a need to maintain the employability of employees in the investment industry through further qualification. Existing offers such as banking specialist were not suitable for this, however, since the professional qualifications in private customer, real estate and corporate customer business or in credit law are not relevant for capital investment companies. The result was the conception of the investment specialist training course. On November 13, 2006, the vocational training committee of the Frankfurt am Main Chamber of Industry and Commerce passed the legal regulation for the IHK investment specialist . Since then, employees in the investment industry have had a new opportunity to gain professional qualifications.

Start of the further training offer

The first two-year exam preparation courses to become an investment specialist started in September 2006 in Frankfurt am Main . Trier was added a year later . The first advanced training exams to become an investment specialist took place in autumn 2008.

Content and admission requirements

Basic qualifications from the areas of KAG business, business administration , economics and law are taught . A specialization is planned in one of the three areas of portfolio management , marketing and sales or risk management .

The admission requirement for the exam is in particular relevant professional experience. Their duration depends on the professional training : For investment fund traders, two more years are sufficient. As a rule, these arise “automatically” during a two-year extra-occupational exam preparation course; However, participation in a course is not compulsory for admission to the examination. Anyone who starts in the investment industry without any relevant training can be examined after six years.
