Porto de Santana is a city and a municipality (município) in the Brazilian state of Amapá , about 20 km away from Macapá , the capital of the state. A railway line connects the hinterland with the port city. This is where the ore and wood transports come from, which are shipped to Porto de Santana.

economy

The place has a fluvial seaport, which is mainly used for shipping wood, wood products (pallets) and ores. Construction of the port (formerly Porto Macapá) began in 1980. The port of Porto de Santana was inaugurated on May 6, 1982 and in 2002 the Companhia Docas de Santana was founded. Located on the Amazon (Santana Channel) opposite the island of the same name, Porto de Santana is the third port in the state of Amapá. (next to Porto de Trombeta; Porto de Munguba). Today the port consists of three terminal facilities:

  • the private terminal Tocantins (for the export of iron ores)
  • Texaco’s private tank terminal for handling fuel
  • the state Terminal Kai A for the handling of wood products and general cargo and container handling.
