Ioannis Kirastas ( Greek Ιωάννης Κυράστας , born October 25, 1952 in Piraeus , Greece ; † April 1, 2004 in Athens ) was a Greek football player and coach.
Player career
Ioannis Kirastas began his professional career at Olympiacos , where he made his debut in the Greek league on December 10, 1972 in a game against Kavala. With Olympiakos, Kirastas played 233 top division games and won five championships (1973, 1974, 1975, 1980, 1981) and three Greek Cup victories (1973, 1975, 1981). In 1981 he moved with Maik Galakos to the arch-rival Panathinaikos Athens . In the next few years he came to Panathinaikos on 145 missions and was able to win two further championships (1984, 1986) and three cups (1982, 1984, 1986). Kirastas ended his active career in 1986.
Ioannis Kirastas was an integral part of the Greek national football team for years and made 46 appearances there between November 15, 1974 and May 19, 1985. The highlight of his national team career was his participation in the 1980 European Football Championship .
Coaching career
After his time as a player, Kirastas completed a coaching course and between 1987 and 2001 coached the teams of Ethnikos Piraeus, Paniliakos, Panionios Athens , Iraklis Thessaloniki and finally Panathinaikos where he had his last station as a coach.
death
Kirastas was hospitalized on March 5, 2004 after suffering from sepsis . After initially improving his health, Kirastas died on April 1, 2004 at the age of 51.
