Elias "Maik" Galakos ( Greek Μάϊκ Γαλάκος , born November 23, 1951 in Piraeus ) is a former Greek football player and coach.
Maik Galakos, who played in midfield , began his professional career in 1972 at Fortuna Düsseldorf after his parents had previously emigrated to Germany and lived with him in Bottrop . In the 1972-73 season had two appearances in the Bundesliga and two appearances in the League Cup . He was the first foreigner to be deployed at Fortuna, and at the same time he was the first Greek in Germany to play in the Bundesliga , founded in 1963 .
In 1973 he moved to Olympiacos Piraeus where he was under contract for seven years and, in addition to two Greek championships (1980, 1981), was also able to win the cup twice (1975, 1981). Repeated attempts to bring him back to Germany failed because of Olympiacos.
In 1981 Galakos moved together with Ioannis Kirastas to the arch-rival Panathinaikos Athens and in 1984 won the championship again as well as two cup wins (1982, 1984). Galakos ended his active career in 1985 after 255 first division appearances.
Maik Galakos was a member of the Greek national football team and came there on 30 missions in which he could score five goals. The highlight of his national team career was his participation in the 1980 European Football Championship in Italy .
After his time as a player, Galakos took over the coaching position at various Greek clubs. His most important club was Panathinaikos.
