Iosefo Verevou (born January 5, 1996 in Naselai ) is a Fijian football player .

Career

Verevou started his career in 2012 at Rewa FC , one of the most renowned Fijian football clubs.

National team

For the U-17 Fijis Verevou came to eight missions. He played four of them in the group stage of the U-17 soccer championship in 2011. Fiji was eliminated in the preliminary round, but came to a 9-0 win against American Samoa . In this game Verevou scored one goal and provided one assist.

At the U-17 Soccer Oceania Championship in 2013 he was again in the squad and this time also captain of his team. In this tournament Fiji was able to earn seven points. The biggest win came against the Cook Islands , Fiji won the game 5-0. In this encounter Verevou scored two goals himself and prepared two goals. In the entire tournament, Verevou scored five goals and prepared three more, making him - at least statistically speaking - the best and most effective player in Fiji. Since then, Verevou has been the record national player and record scorer of the U-17s in Fiji with eight appearances and six goals .

After his good performance, he was appointed to the squad for the 2015 U-20 World Cup . It was Fiji's first ever participation in a world championship. In the first game, the team met the highly favored Germany , which Germany won 8: 1 as expected. The only goal in Fiji was Verevou's 48th-minute header from a Setareki Hughes cross . Verevou's goal was also Fiji's first goal at a World Cup. In the second game against Honduras he again scored a goal and thus initiated the first victory of the U-20 national team at a world championship.
