Irabu-jima ( Japanese 伊 良 部 島 ) is an island in the Miyako Islands in the Pacific Ocean .

geography

Irabujima has an area of ​​29.08 km². The highest point is the Makiyama ( 牧 山 ) with 89.0 m.

Fewer than 6000 people live on the island in the Irabu-chō ( 伊 良 部 町 ) district belonging to Miyakojima . The island belongs to Okinawa Prefecture . There are two primary and two secondary schools and one high school.

Shimoji-jima and Irabujima are only separated by a river-like rift. Both islands are connected to each other by six bridges.

Shimoji-shima Airport is located on the neighboring island of Shimoji-shima, which belongs to Irabu-jima .
