Iraya is an active volcano on the Filipino island of Batan , which belongs to the group of Batan Islands . The Iraya is the northernmost active volcano in the Philippines.
The Iraya is a stratovolcano with a height of 1009 meters above sea level and a base diameter of around 5.5 kilometers. Adjacent volcanic buildings are those of the Matarem and the Mahatao .
Volcanic activity
The last eruption of the Iraya took place in 1454. In 1998, volcanologists recorded a swarm of earthquakes , after which a monitoring network was set up on the island of Batan for several months. The Iraya is one of 22 active volcanoes in the Philippines.
