The Iremel ( Bashkir Ирәмәл) (Ural Mountains, Russia ) is the second highest mountain (1586 m) in the Southern Urals , which is only surpassed by the mountain Yamantau (1640 m). The Iremelskaya Podkowa (literally horseshoe) consists of the Bolshoi Iremel (literally Big Iremel), the Maly Iremel (literally Little Iremel), Kabanchik (literally wild boar) and Scherebtschik (literally stallion). According to a legend, the Bolshoi Iremel embodies a man, the Maly Iremel - his son, Kabanchik and Scherebtschik - are her pets. The Iremel Mountains have a unique climate - the weather changes very often, strong winds (9.5–13 m / s) and snowstorms in winter (35–63 days). The snow cover is approx. 80-100 centimeters. Up to 200 days a year it is foggy in these mountains.

There are three special stone formations on Mount Iremel: Kabani (literally wild boar), rock towns and stone rivers. The word Kabani is an old Bashkir term. Kabani are the haystack-shaped mountains covered with strips of stone with steep slopes and plateau-shaped peaks. The mountain Bolshoi Iremel is crowned by a mighty plateau-shaped peak, called Kaban (wild boar). The rock towns differ in the accumulation of sharp, high rocks with impenetrable large heaps of stones at the foot of the rock. The mountain Scherebtschik is an example of a rock city. Its 30-40 meter high cliffs rise above the coniferous forest like castles with loopholes, with its spikes and towers.

The stone rivers are an accumulation of large stones in the gaps between the peaks. Numerous legends are told about the Iremel. Some believe that Iremel is the center of the universe, the so-called "Alatir-Kamen". Others say that in the interior of the mountains the disappeared people "Tschud" guard their treasures. In the opinion of others, the golden woman appeared here - the world mother, the unified mother for humans, enchanted peoples and animals.

The Iremel is considered a sacred mountain for the Bashkirs. It was forbidden by unwritten law to climb it. Today this mountain is a magnet for tourists.
