The Meißner 8 north route is a 35.9 kilometer long cycle route in the district of Meißen and the Lommatzscher Pflege in Germany . Most of it leads on asphalted and natural paths, with the exception of State Road 83 from Buschbad to Garsebach , which is currently still paved . The route is very well signposted, numerous secondary routes such as to the mining museum in Mehren are also signposted.

Route description

The route begins formally in the Meißner district of Cölln at the connection on the right Elbe Cycle Path at Meißner Bahnhof . From there you drive over the railway bridge to the old town and the Triebisch valley, a little further away . From here there is no alternative to continuing to Semmelsberg ; you have to use the state road 83 . But from then on you ride on developed or natural cycle paths , partly on the railway line of the former narrow-gauge railway Wilsdruff-Gärtitz . From Semmelsberg, the route branches off from the Meißner 8 south route going into the valley of the Kleine Triebisch . It passes the former viaduct of the former narrow-gauge railway Wilsdruff – Gärtitz, and from there the route leads on the planum of the narrow-gauge railway to Löthain . Up to the intersection with federal highway 101 , which is crossed under in a tunnel, there is a strong upward path, after which the route leads in a downward gradient to the museum station in Löthain . From here the route leads on a road with little traffic to the Görna-Krögis small train station, of which the station building is still well preserved.

From here the cycle route leads on the natural planum of the narrow-gauge railway through the Käbschützal to Mettelwitz . If this route poses a problem after long rains, you can still find many former station buildings of the narrow-gauge railway in different conditions. From Mettelwitz you follow the Ketzerbachtal on developed roads and paths to Zehren , whereby the station building of the narrow-gauge railway is still there on the way through Zöthain . The route leads through agricultural areas, with the castle in Schieritz being a milestone on the way . In Zehren, the cycle path crosses federal road 6 and leads down on side roads into the Elbe valley, where the way back to Meißen leads on the left-hand part of the Elbe cycle path . At the new Elbe bridge at the Schottenberg tunnel north of the Burgberg you cross the Elbe and drive back to the starting point.
