It rises in the area of ​​the city of Wilsdruff between the villages of Grumbach , Helbigsdorf and Herzogswalde in a meadow depression. On its course to the north, it flows between Limbach and Birkenhain and is then crossed by the federal motorway 4 .

Other places on the river are Lotzen , Lampersdorf , Taubenheim , Kobitzsch and Semmelsberg . Between Semmelsberg and Garsebach the Kleine Triebisch flows into the Triebisch in the area of ​​the municipality of Klipphausen .

The only noteworthy tributary is the Kesselbach, which flows in below Kobitzsch on the right.

The small Triebisch is characterized by its clean water. Since there are no industrial plants on it, trout stocks have been preserved . During the GDR era, it was the only body of water in the Meissen district in which this species of fish could still be found.

From 1909 to 1966 the narrow-gauge railway Wilsdruff – Meißen-Triebischtal ran through the lower part of the small Triebisch valley .

The Baltic Sea-Saale dams long-distance hiking trail leads along the Kleine Triebisch from the estuary to Taubenheim .
