The list of well-known papyrologists collects people who have either completed their habilitation in papyrology , or who are particularly researchers in another discipline ( e.g. Classical Philology , Ancient History , Classical Archeology , Provincial Roman Archeology , Byzantine Studies , Legal History , Egyptology , Numismatics or Epigraphy ) Concerned with papyrology, when authors wrote on papyrology (several monographs or scripts that were smaller over decades) or otherwise made a lasting contribution to the research of papyri and other sources explored by papyrology. Insofar as papyrology deals with the diverse manuscripts found on ancient and late antique papyri, it has an overlap in common with palaeography , the subject of which is the manuscripts found in codices from late antiquity, the Byzantine period and the Renaissance to find modern times.
Greek and Latin papyrology
Since Egyptian, especially demotic papyri fundamentally determine the sources of ancient Egypt, Greek papyrologists often deal with Egyptian, especially demotic papyri.

Egyptian papyrology
The Egyptian papyrology includes the four writing levels of the hieroglyphics , the hieratic , the demotic and the Coptic script . Accordingly, demotic and Coptic papyrology is sometimes used. Since Greek papyri supplement the sources on ancient Egypt, Egyptian papyrologists often also deal with Greek papyri from Egypt.
