Gustav Adolf Gerhard

Gustav Adolf Gerhard (born April 14, 1878 in Konstanz , † October 24, 1918 in Vienna ) was a classical philologist and papyrologist .

Life

Gustav Adolf Gerhard studied classical philology and German at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg with Erwin Rohde , Kuno Fischer and Otto Crusius . In 1899 he was awarded for the work Epistularis apud Graecos formae historia . 1901 Gerhard was in Heidelberg with the work studies the history of the Greek letter doctorate , his state examination he graduated in 1902. From 1901 to 1913 he was a research at the University of Heidelberg staff and dealt with papyrus scrolls . In 1907 he was a test candidate at a Heidelberg grammar school, from 1907 to 1908 teacher at the grammar school of Tauberbischofsheim. In 1907 he completed his habilitation in Heidelberg with the font Phoinix von Kolophon, texts and examinations and worked as a private lecturer at the chair of Albrecht Dieterich . In 1911 he received the title of associate professor.

In 1913, Gerhard moved to the Franz Joseph University in Czernowitz as an associate professor , where he was appointed full professor in 1918. After the closure of the University of Chernivtsi due to the war, he did his military service in a Viennese ministry, where he died on October 24, 1918 of the Spanish flu .
