Thomas Kruse (historian)

Thomas Kruse (* 1961 in Heidelberg ) is a German ancient historian .

Life

He studied 1982-1983 jurisprudence and 1984-1991 Ancient History, Medieval and Modern History and Classical Archeology at the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg . From 1987 to 1991 he was a research assistant at the Epigraphic Database Heidelberg . He passed his master's degree in 1992. From 1992 to 1998 he was a research assistant at the Chair of Ancient History at Bielefeld University . He was a research assistant at the Institute for Papyrology at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg from 1999 to 2002 as part of the project digitization of the Heidelberg papyrus collection funded by the German Research Foundation . He received his doctorate in 2002 from the Faculty of Oriental Studies and Classical Studies at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . After his habilitation in 2003 from the Philosophical Faculty of the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, he was granted the license to teach ancient history. From 2002 to 2004 he was a research assistant and from 2004 to 2009 university lecturer at the Institute for Papyrology at the University of Heidelberg . Since April 2009 he has been a member of the Documenta Antiqua department (Working Group on Ancient Legal History and Papyrology) of the Institute for Ancient Cultural History (Commission for Ancient Legal History until December 2012) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences .

His main research interests are the edition of documentary papyri from various collections, the history of Egypt in Roman times and the administrative history of the Roman Empire.
