Federico Morelli

Federico Morelli (* 1963 in Verona ) is an Italian papyrologist and classical philologist at the Institute for Ancient History at the University of Vienna . Morelli is a member of the Comité international de papyrologie of the Association Internationale de Papyrologues .

Life

Federico Morelli was born in Verona in 1963 and grew up in Florence . He studied Classical Studies and Papyrology at the University of Florence and took part in several excavation campaigns in Antinoupolis ( Egypt ) and research stays in Cairo . He has received grants in various countries, including the 1997–1998 Humboldt grant at the Institute for Papyrology at the University of Heidelberg . In Florence he received his doctorate in 1996 with his dissertation Olio e retribuzioni nell'Egitto tardo (V - VIII d. C.) (in German: Oil and wages in late Egypt (5th – 8th centuries AD)) .

In 2006 Morelli received the venia legendi in papyrology from the University of Vienna with his habilitation thesis Corpus Papyrorum Raineri XXII , Documenti greci per la fiscalità e l'amministrazione dell'Egitto arabo . In 2014 he obtained the Italian Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale as “professore ordinario” for Classical and Late Antiquity Philology.

Since 1998 he has been working in the Vienna papyrus collection , from 1998 to 2004 as a research assistant postdoc at the Austrian Academy of Sciences as part of the START project Edition Greek papyri from the papyrus collection of the Austrian National Library , from 2005 to 2014 as a research assistant postdoc and senior PostDoc at the Institute for Ancient History at the University of Vienna as part of FWF projects for the edition of the Senuthios archive and from April 2014 to April 2015 as Senior PostDoc at the papyrus collection of the Austrian National Library as part of the Papyri of Foundation funded by the Andrew Mellon Foundation the Early Arab Period Online . Since May 2015 he has been working as a Senior PostDoc in the FWF project Prices and wages in late antique and early Arab Egypt at the Institute for Ancient History at the University of Vienna.

Federico Morelli has been a member of the Comité international de papyrologie of the Association Internationale de Papyrologues since 2016 .
