Irene Eijs

Irene Elisabeth Maria Eijs (born December 16, 1966 in Wassenaar ) is a former Dutch rower .

The 1.76 m tall Irene Eijs from the Leidsche student Roei Vereniging Njord in Leiden competed in the Rowing World Cup as a single rower in 1991 and 1992 . Her best placement so far was eighth at the 1992 Olympics . At the rowing world championships in 1993 she reached fourth place in the double scull with Eeke van Nes . In the 1994 World Cup season she appeared again exclusively in the single, at the 1994 World Rowing Championships she took fourth place. At the 1995 World Rowing Championships Irene Eijs competed in two competitions. Together with Eeke van Nes, she won the silver medal in the double scull behind the Canadians Heddle / McBean . In double fours, Eeke van Nes and Irene Eijs rowed with Nelleke Penninx and Anita Meiland to third place behind the Germans and Canadians, in whom Heddle and McBean also won a double medal.

Even with the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta Irene Eijs approached in two boat classes. Together with Eeke van Nes, she won the bronze medal in the double scull behind Heddle / McBean and the Chinese boat. The Dutch quadruple finished sixth in the Olympic finals.
