Irene Natividad

Irene Natividad (born September 14, 1948 in Manila , Philippines ) is an American feminist , suffragette and association president.

Life

Irene Natividad was born the fourth child of a chemical engineer. The family followed the father to many countries where he worked: Japan, Iran, Greece and India. In 1973 she received her Masters in American Literature and in 1976 her Masters in Philosophy from Columbia University in New York .

From 1974 to 1976 Natividad taught early American literature first at Lehmann College, City University of New York and then at Columbia University. At the age of 26 (1974) she married Andreas Cortese, who worked at Communications Satellite. They both have a son who was born in 1984.

Political activities

Her political career began handing out leaflets for presidential candidate Eugene J. McCarthy in 1968. From 1982 to 1984 she was the chair of the New York State Asian Pacific Caucus and deputy chairman of the Asian Pacific Caucus of the Democratic National Committee. In 1984 she supported the election campaign of the first woman to be nominated as Vice President by one of the major American parties: Geraldine Ferraro .

She was elected chairwoman of the National Women's Political Caucus (NWPC) in 1985, making her the first woman with Asian roots to lead a political organization in the United States. In 1987 she was re-elected chairwoman, resigned in 1989 to take on new international tasks.

With her own organization, the Globe Women , she has been holding prominent women's forums since 1990. The first of the forums took place in Canada in 1990 . In 1992 it became a gathering of women from 85 countries in Dublin , Ireland . The next such forum was held in Taiwan in 1994. The forums have been held annually since 1997 and are known as the Global Summit of Women .

Another internationally known organization that is organized within Globe Women is the Corporate Women Directors International (CWDI) - an international network of high-ranking women managers. As President of the CWDI, Irene Natividad is a sought-after interview partner for the media on the implementation of women's rights.

Irene Natividad has launched many initiatives and organizations that support women and their values. She developed the Exceptional Merit in Media Award (EMMA) , which was presented for the first time in 1986.

Since 2006, it has been gathering women from politics and business around the world to draw attention to the slow progress in matters of women's rights by inviting them to the ceremonial openings of stock exchanges . These Stock Exchange Market Openings have already taken place in the following locations: Hong Kong, Zurich , Barcelona , Istanbul .

Relation to Germany

The Global Summit of Women took place in Berlin in 2007 and on September 30, 2013 the Frankfurt Stock Exchange was opened by Irene Natividad with women from business, politics and women's organizations .
