Irene Soltwedel-Schäfer

Irene Barbara Lilia Soltwedel-Schäfer (born January 28, 1955 in Celle ) is a German politician and entrepreneur. She was a member of the Greens in the Hessian state parliament and in the European Parliament (1994–1999).

Life

From April 5, 1987 to July 18, 1994 she was a member of the Hessian state parliament, where she was chairwoman of the committee for agriculture and forestry for the 12th electoral period. After being elected to the European Parliament, she resigned from the state parliament. Margareta Wolf became her successor . In the European Parliament she was chair of the Monetary Committee.

Soltwedel-Schäfer runs the company European Communication with Adolf Schäfer , which helps to submit project applications to the EU . Among other things, she works with the German Study Institute for the Blind (blista) in Marburg .

As a politician, she dealt with BSE and published a book with the veterinarian Kari Köster-Lösche about the dangers of the epidemic. Another important point in her previous MEP career was advocating for Indian land rights in Canada .
