Irina Mikhailovna Kuznetsova ( Russian Ирина Михайловна Кузнецова ; born December 9, 1961 in Moscow ) is a Soviet - Russian polar explorer and photographer .

Life

Kuznetsova, daughter of radio technician and polar researcher Valentin Mikhailovna Kuznetsova , studied at Lomonosov University in Moscow , graduating as an engineer and economist .

After graduating, Kuznetsova became president of the Metelitsa International Polar Expedition and Sports Center founded by her mother . She is a ski racer and has participated in many Meteliza expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic . After her mother's death in 2010, she became the captain of the Meteliza group of skiers . She was selected as the only representative of Russia for the 2012 Antarctic expedition.

As a freelance photographer, Kuznetsova worked for TASS and Novosti on women on Arctic and Antarctic expeditions. Her publications appeared in Russia, the United States , Japan and Norway .

In 1990 Kuznetsova founded the Moscow photojournalist agency MIR, which she has been running since then and which represents the best Russian photographers on the international market. She was involved in founding the Guild of Professional Photographers of Russia and in organizing competitions and exhibitions for the guild of which she is Vice-President for International Relations. At the photography school of the daily newspaper Izvestia she teaches author rights and business in photography.
