Irinchinbal ( Chinese: Bèi'érzhījīn Yìlínzhìbān , 孛 兒 只 斤 懿 璘 質 班, Mongolian ᠷᠢᠨᠴᠢᠨᠪᠠᠯ , * May 1, 1326 ; † December 14, 1332 in Beijing ) was the son of Qutugku Khan, a Mongolian khagan and under the name of Ningzong (寧宗Níngzōng) Emperor of the Yuan Dynasty . He ruled for only a few months in 1332.

Life

Irinchinbal was the second son of Qutugku Khan and a younger (half) brother of Toghan Timur . He was born of Babusha from the Naimanclan while his father in Central Asia in exile lingered.

When Qutugku Khan died, Toqa Timur (r. 1328/29, 1329–32) succeeded him to the throne and the young Irinchinbal was made Prince of Fu. Toqa Timur had a son of his own named El Tegüs, but when he died in 1332, his widow Putashali decided to respect his last will and install Irinchibal as the new khagan in place of Prince El Tegüs.

The de facto regent El Temür only hesitantly supported this decision and also explicitly opposed Qutugku Khan's older son Toghan Timur , because he suspected that he had poisoned his father. Since Irinchinbal was Toqa Timur's darling , the regent El Temür decided to enthrone the boy as the new khagan. But just two months later, Irinchinbal died unexpectedly at the age of seven.

Again the regent asked the Empress Dowager Putashali to appoint Prince El Tegüs as his successor, which she refused. So he had no choice but to bring Toghan Timur back from exile and welcome him as the new Khan.
