Qutugku Khan ( Qoshila , Mongolian ᠬᠥᠰᠯᠡᠨ ; * 1300 ; † August 30, 1329 in the then "Middle Capital" ( 元 中 都 ), today's Mantouying ( 馒头 营乡 ) municipality in Zhangbei County, Zhangjiakou City in Hebei Province ) was a Mongolian khagan and under the name Mingzong ( 明 宗 , Míngzōng ) emperor of the Yuan dynasty and khagan of the Mongols. He only ruled for about six months.

Life

The older son of Khaishan was ousted by his uncle Ayurparibhadra after his father had preferred him to the throne. After an unsuccessful attempted coup, he fled to the Chagatai in 1316 , under whose protection he settled on the Altai.

After the coup d'état by the military El / Yang Temür in Beijing in 1328, he advanced to Karakorum with the help of the Chagatai and was proclaimed emperor there. His younger brother Toqa Timur , who had meanwhile established himself in China with El Temür's help, abdicated in his favor. But El Temür was not satisfied with this arrangement (which would have robbed him of his influence) and poisoned the Khagan at a meeting in Shan-tu. Toqa Timur re-entered the government.
