Iris Firmenich (born January 13, 1961 in Burgstädt ) is a Saxon politician ( CDU ) and member of the Saxon state parliament .

education and profession

Iris Firmenich trained as a zoo technician / mechanizer after graduating from high school . After a distance learning to become a qualified agricultural engineering economist, from 1980 she worked in the planning department, later as a sector manager in business administration in the agriculture department at the Hainichen District Council . From 1989 she worked in the trade department, later sales manager at the rural trading cooperative BHG Hainichen. From 1991 she worked as a research assistant for Gottfried Tröger, then member of the state parliament and later member of the Bundestag .

Iris Firmenich is an Evangelical Lutheran, married and has three children. Her husband is the mayor of the city of Frankenberg / Sa.

politics

Iris Firmenich has been a member of the CDU since 1992 and was chairwoman of the CDU city association Mittweida and since October 1999 for the constituency Mittweida 1 member of the Saxon state parliament. Since November 2004 she has been deputy chairman of the committee for social affairs, health, family, women and youth, and a member of the committee for science and universities, culture and media, as well as a member of the 1st committee of inquiry of the 4th electoral term (Saxon State Bank). From 2009 to 2014 she was deputy chairwoman of the CDU parliamentary group, as well as a member of the committee for science and universities, culture and media and the working group for school and sport. In addition, since April 2012 she was one of 19 members in the third committee of inquiry of the fifth electoral term of the first Saxon NSU committee of inquiry "Neo-Nazi terror networks in Saxony".

Firmenich was a member of the district council in the district of central Saxony from 2009 to 2014 . She has been a member of the city council of Frankenberg since 2014. She is the state chairwoman of the Saxon Rural Women's Association. In the state elections in Saxony in 2019 , she was again elected constituency member in the Central Saxony 3 constituency with 37.1 percent of the direct votes.
