Dennis Taylor 2004
The 1972 world champion replaced long-time champion Jackie Rea in the same year . After six years there was another challenger in Dennis Taylor , but Higgins defended clearly with 21: 7. Also in 1978 and the following year there was an Irish challenger, Patsy Fagan , who had also lost to Higgins.
game
Higgins had the better start of the match and, among other things, pulled away 3-0 with a 99 break before Taylor equalized directly. However, his opponent took the lead again with a 107 break before Taylor countered with a 94 break. Then Taylor took the lead for the first time and expanded it to a 9: 4. Higgins came right up to 9: 6, until a score of 12: 9 no player could win more than one frame in a row, with Higgins making the 10: 7 with a 131 break. When the score was 12: 9, Taylor made the jump to 16: 9 before Higgins came up to him again at 16:12. After Taylor was able to extend his lead again, Higgins cut it to a tight 17:15. But with two 53 breaks in a row, Taylor made it to the 19:15, before winning the next frame very closely with 62:55. With a 75:30 in the next frame, Taylor finished the match, ending Higgins' winning streak and beginning one himself.
