Origin and history

The Irish Red and White Setter, as well as the Irish Red Setter , were traditionally bred on Irish estates. It appears that the Red and White is the older of the two breeds. The beginning of the breeding is assumed towards the end of the 17th century. For a long time it was the more popular of the two breeds, until it was slowly replaced by the all-red variety at the end of the 19th century. Today he's gaining ground against the Irish Red Setter.

description

The Irish Red and White Setter grows up to 66 cm. Long, silky hair, as so-called “feathering” on the back of the fore and hind legs, as well as on the outside of the ears, the basic color white, with unbroken red areas. Set on level with the eyes and well back, the ears are carried close to the head.

Essence

In essence and appearance, the two races are very similar. The Red and White is a bit wider and shorter. It can be said that the Red was bred more for speed and the Red and White more for strength and endurance.

The Red and White Setter is seen as more reserved than its red cousin, as well as being calmer and easier to raise. The Irish Red and White Setter is an absolutely calm dog in the house , very spirited and active outdoors.
