List of domestic dogs

The Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is an FCI recognized Irish dog breed ( FCI Group 3, Section 1, Standard No. 40 ).

Origin and history

Of the four Irish Terrier breeds , it is perhaps the oldest. Written references to a "soft-coated" terrier have been around for 200 years. However, this is not entirely clear, as all terrier breeds are closely related. It comes from the southern Irish counties of Kerry and Cork and is related to the Kerry Blue Terrier and the Irish Terrier .

description

The Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier grows up to 48 cm and weighs 20 kg. The hair feels soft and silky in texture, not harsh, without an undercoat , in every shade of wheat. The young dog is dark, only the fur of the adult dog is really wheat-colored and wavy or openly curled. The Wheaten does not shed and does not switch between summer and winter fur. Grooming must be done very regularly (combing, brushing and cutting), as it becomes matted very quickly. The ears are small, falling forward. The character of the Wheaten is generally described as happy, philanthropic, fearless and very adaptive, although somewhat stubborn.

use

Originally used as a farm, farm and hunting dog , many dogs of this breed now live as family dogs . Using his defense readiness, he can be used as a guard dog .

Hereditary diseases

The Familial protein losing enteropathy and Proteinverlust- nephropathy is associated mirt a protein loss through the intestines and kidneys. It is probably a special form of Inflammatory Bowel Disease .
