Irma Emmrich

Irma Helene Emmrich (born September 14, 1919 in Dresden as Irma Helene Goldate ; † August 13, 2018 ) was a German art historian and professor at the TU Dresden .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1938 at the Clara Schumann School in Dresden, she did her Reich Labor Service in 1938/39 and began as a trainee in the Gäbel machine factory in Dresden in 1939. She then worked as a secretary in a transport equipment factory in her hometown until 1942.

From 1943 Emmrich studied pedagogy at the college for teacher training and graduated in 1945 with the state examination. From 1945 to 1949 she worked as a teacher and headmistress in Dresden and Freital. In 1948 she passed the examination for higher education and taught at the Dresden-Reick Oberschule from 1950.

In 1952 she became lecturer for German at the Dresden University of Transport. In 1954 she did her doctorate in Jena and in the same year became senior assistant at the Institute for Social Sciences at the TH Dresden. In 1958 she took over a lectureship in Marxist aesthetics there. Two years later she completed her habilitation in Jena. In 1966 she was appointed professor with teaching assignment in Dresden, and three years later she became a full professor of art studies in the Philosophy and Cultural Studies section at the TU Dresden. In 1980 she retired.

Emmrich was married to the literary scholar Christian Emmrich since 1952 in his second marriage . The couple had a son and a daughter. The widowed Irma Ackermann brought a daughter from her first marriage.
