Isaac Salmonsen , also Isac Heiman Salmonsen (born on February 27, 1846 in Copenhagen , died on July 10, 1910 there ) was a Danish bookseller and publisher.

Life

Salmonsen was the son of the factory owner Heymann Salmonsen (1798–1869) and his wife Dina (1809–1896, nee Jacobsen). From 1861 to 1871 he trained in the bookstore of Phil. Gerson Philipsen in Copenhagen and on October 10, 1871, together with his older brother Moritz (1843–1913) founded their own bookstore under the name "Brødrene Salmonsen" (Salmonsen Brothers) . Moritz emigrated to the United States the following year , where he worked as an official of the magistrate and writer from Chicago at Salmonsen's store illustrerede Konversationsleksikon and 40 years after his immigration in 1913 published Brogede less fra fyrretyve aars ophold i Chicago .

Together with his brother Carl (1839-1887) he published Den Nordiske Bogverden for a year in 1877 . Carl Salmonsen was involved in the creation of the Dansk biografisk leksikon and had written numerous articles in magazines and journals.

In the years 1877 to 1885 he was chairman of Boghandlermedhjælperbiblioteket and in 1897 director of Boghandlerfagskole (also Fagskolen for Boghaandværk, technical school for book crafts, a vocational school). He was also a member of the Boghandlerforeningen (booksellers' association) since December 7, 1881.

Salmonsen was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Copenhagen .

Works

He is known for the publication of the encyclopedia named after him, which appeared under the name Salmonsens store illustrerede Konversationsleksikon from 1893 to 1911 under the editorship of Christian Blangstrup in 19 volumes.
