Isabella Kossina (born August 18, 1962 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and environmental expert.

education

After graduating from the secondary school in St. Johann im Pongau with high school diploma , Kossina studied technical chemistry from 1980 to 1984 (major in organic chemistry) at the Vienna University of Technology . She completed her studies with a degree in engineering with distinction. As part of a scholarship abroad, she then worked for six months at the French Atomic Energy Commission ( CEA ).

Career

She began her professional career in 1985 at the trade authority of the City of Vienna. In February 1986 she moved to the Federal Environment Agency (UBA). She was appointed head of the environmental technologies department. In 1992 she moved to the head of the Environmental Technologies group and, as one of three group leaders at the office, was responsible for the areas of waste, air, climate protection, noise and traffic. After the UBA was transferred to UBA-GmbH, Kossina was appointed as authorized signatory and subsequently as managing director of UBA-GmbH under commercial law. During her UBA activity, Kossina worked for the City of Vienna as a waste expert. In addition, she has chaired international congresses of the EU Commission and the UN Economic Commission (UN-ECE).

From May 2001 to June 2004, Kossina, appointed by Mayor Michael Häupl , was the city councilor for the environment in Vienna. Her handicap was that she had not previously exercised a political function and therefore had no experience of the harsh customs of Austrian politics. Since the mayor restructured his team in 2004, she has been managing director of BMG Beteiligungsmanagementgesellschaft GmbH, a subsidiary of Wiener Stadtwerke ; This manages subsidiaries and holding companies in the areas of parking space management and real estate development, evaluates new fields of activity for Stadtwerke and carries out group-wide projects on behalf of Stadtwerke. Your successor as Environment City Councilor, Ulli Sima , comes from a family of politicians.
