Isabelle A
Isabelle A (born May 25, 1975 in Ghent ; real name Isabelle Adam ) is a Belgian singer who was considered a teen idol in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Life
Isabelle Adam was born into a working-class family in Ghent in 1975. At the age of twelve she was discovered by producer Marc Van Beveren ; their first single De Troika came out in 1987. She became the presenter of the youth program Tv Tam Tam on BRT (now VTR), in which she interviewed young people.
In 1990 she landed a number 1 hit with Hé, lekker beest , which stayed in the Belgian charts for nine months and went platinum . Her second single Ik weet wat ik wil , which was released the following year, was awarded a gold record , the debut album Isabelle A went platinum.
At the age of 17, Isabelle A released her second album Zeventien , the releases of which Ik heb je nodig and Weet je nog were chart successes. With Theresa Platteau and Prince Far Out she started the international dance project Interactive , which led to the release of the single Slam in 1994 . Her third album Jij doet me leven , whose single Je mag altijd op me rekenen became a summer hit of the year in Belgium, was released in 1993.
The following years were less successful for Isabelle A. Due to contract issues with her manager, she was unable to record albums for two years. Her next album, Hemels , was released in 1997 and was her last album in Dutch for a long time. For the next few years she published titles and albums in English, which, however, could not build on earlier successes. It wasn't until 2006 that the single Ik heb je zo ran a hit that made it to number 3 in the Flanders charts . In the same year she recorded the duet True Love with Helmut Lotti for his double album The Crooners . In 2006 she performed with Luc De Vos at the 0110 concert against racism in Ghent. The following year, she and the group Gorki recorded the title En dans for the album Bravo Clouseau , which was released in 2007 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Belgian band Clouseau . In 2008 she released her current album De macht der gewoonte , which reached number 16 in the Flemish charts and on which she was musically supported by artists such as An Pierlé , Sarah Bettens , Stijn Meuris and Sioen . On Roel Vanderstukken's album Leven in mijn leven in 2010 she was heard in a duet with Vanderstukken with the title of the same name.
Isabelle A, who gave birth to her first child in 2010, has been a singer for the party and cover band The Expendables since January 2012, performing under the name The Expendables & Isabelle A.
